Lentils Coriander

Okay, I’m trying. This is the recipe tonight. I actually searched and searched for it, because it used to be on the back of the packages of the brand of lentils I would buy. I had saved the little plastic bag forever, but apparently forever ran out.

Anyway, lentils were on sale at Albertsons and onions came in the box of veggies from Los Poblanos, so I was set. Of course, I had to change a few things. Instead of Italian Sausage, I use Boca Breakfast Links. The main problems I am having is that the new timer I got (a bad thing happened to the old one) doesn’t seem to have an off button. Granted, there are ways to turn it off, but they’re rather permanent and I’m thinking there has to be another option.

Anyway, it seems like a nice recipe. There are not too many ingredients, they’re easily available, and cheap. There is a typo, I’m guessing. Where it says “21 tsp. coriander”, I’m going with 2 1/2. Call me silly. Also, I had to add extra water partway through or I’d have had charcoal.

Did I mention that I don’t know how to turn off the new timer?

Anyway, the end result seems nice. Certainly very filling. The lentils and sausage still hold their shape. The onions magically dissapear. My favorite part is that it only uses one pot!

I tried resetting the time to five minutes. My theory was that it would hit the sounding off point, make a loud noise and be done. Unfortunately, I think I set it to 55 minutes. Every time I mess with it seems to just wind it up more. It’s too bad about the old one. If I had bought one with batteries, I could just just pop the batteries out and make the thing shut up. But no. I wanted to be environmentalist. I thought a kitchen timer with batteries was wasteful and stupid.

Another factor you might want to be aware of with the lentil recipie is that it has enough fiber to keep you regular for the next month, if you get my drift. For some, maybe, that’s a positive. Maybe.

I don’t know why I used the timer, anyway. Just put it on the stove and let it boil for an hour. It wasn’t complicated.

Stupid timer.
